Sensei Hopkins presented Nick with Japanese calligraphy by Master Gichin Funakoshi (1868 - 1957, see the "What's Wado" link to find out more about Master Funakoshi). The calligraphy says "Hatsuun Jindo" which means "Parting the Clouds, Seeking the Way":
